What types of electric bikes do you sell?At Coastal Electric Bicycles, we offer a wide range of e-bikes, including fat bikes, e-road bikes, cruisers, and electric mountain bikes (eMTBs). Our selection ranges from just under $2000 up to $8000, with our more premium Mountain Bikes available upstairs at Coastal Bike Co.

How far can I ride on a single charge?The range of an electric bike depends on the battery capacity, terrain, rider weight, and assist level. Most of our e-bikes offer a range between 40–120km per charge. If you would like more specific information please let us know what model you are interested in.

What Standards do e-Bikes need to comply with in NSW?For e-bikes with a maximum continuous rated output not exceeding 500 watts: AS 15194:2016- Cycles - Electrically power assisted cycles - EPAC Bicycles (also known as pedelecs), or EN 15194:2017+A1:2023 - Cycles - Electrically power assisted cycles - EPAC Bicycles, or UL 2849 - Electrical systems for e-Bikes For e-bikes with a maximum continuous rated output exceeding 500 watts: UL 2849 - Electrical systems for e-Bikes E-bike batteries EN 50604-1:2016+A1:2021 - Secondary lithium batteries for light EV (electric vehicle) applications, or IEC 62133-2:2017 - Secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes- Safety requirements for portable sealed secondary cells, and for batteries made from them, for use in portable applications- Part 2: Lithium systems, or UL 2271 - Batteries for use in light electric vehicle (LEV) applications (As of March 2025) Please check that any e-bike you are considering purchasing meets the above standards.

How should I charge my electric bicycle's battery safely?Always use the charger supplied or recommended by the manufacturer. Charge your battery in an open area, away from flammable materials like beds, sofas, and carpets. Never leave the battery charging unattended or overnight.

What should I do if my battery is damaged or overheating?Stop using the battery immediately. Do not charge or use a damaged or overheating battery. Look out for signs of battery failure, such as swelling, leaking, or venting gas. Contact the manufacturer or a professional for assistance.

What are the warning signs of a battery fire or failure?Warning signs include a strong chemical smell, discolouration, blistering, bulging, or swelling of the casing, leaking electrolyte, extreme heat, and abnormal popping, hissing, or crackling sounds. If you notice any of these, stop using the battery immediately and seek professional help.

What should I do if my battery or bike starts smoking or catches fire?Evacuate the area immediately and call Triple Zero (000). If safe to do so, close doors to contain the fire. Can I modify my electric bike or its battery?No. Modifying or tampering with any part of your electric bike or battery can result in serious safety risks, including fire, explosion, or electric shock. Always keep your bike and battery as per the manufacturer’s specifications.
